After some weeks of above normal temperatures, snowpack melting on all sun exposed areas, and it generally feeling like summer, today’s brisk temperatures were a reminder of early spring.
Like most things in early spring, the grantee of warm weather and the hope of wearing swim trucks outside is often forced. The act of coming out of the caves of winter, blinking wearily into the bright whiteness of skin that has not seen sunshine in months, is a ungainly experience. Similar to a caddisflies emerging from a watery cocoon under a river pebble and crawling onto the banks of the river to dry out from jellyfish constancy to dry wafer cookie.
So too diving into the pool, and realizing that the irregular pool time over the last couple of weeks as degraded the ability to tread water, yet alone move though it and attain flow state.
Overall, its worth it. The heated pool. The sun glinting off the dusting of spring snow. The crisp cool breeze with a hint of tree pollen making allergies known from a winter of hermetic air quality. Spring and summer are going to be here as soon as I can put sunscreen and a rash guard on.
